Abstract: The article is the first work to consider articles and reviews by Piotr M. Bitsilli, as a part of a large unified whole, built not as a consistent development of certain issues, but in accordance with the musical principle, where polyphony allows for the simultaneous carrying out of different themes-thoughts. There is a similarity here with Vasilii V. Rozanov, but he moves from the academic to the artistic language, while Bitsilli remains within the framework of academic thinking. In his works, Bitsilli often draws parallels between various processes (history and music, history and novel, features of the image in painting and in fiction), clearly outlining the boundaries of comparison. At the same time, it would be impossible to outline many features of the processes under study without such a comparison. Bitsilli’s articles themselves do not resemble a complete whole, but a “segment” of the thinking process. Thus, all of his literary heritage is a kind of “sheet music of thought”. And the knowledge of such “sheet-music-like” thinking allows us to read each individual work in a broader context.
