Abstract: The paper discusses the personal relationship of Piotr M. Bitsilli and Vladimir V. Veidle on the basis of their comments about each other in book reviews and in the letters of both of them addressed to other people. The article also analyzes the unpublished correspondence of the scholars from 1933 to 1937, kept in the Manuscript Department of the Pushkin House (Saint Petersburg) and in the Bakhmeteff Archive (New York). The letters add new particulars to the creative biography of Bitsilli and Veidle; they confirm the general picture of a great intellectual proximity which arises on the basis of their published reciprocal assessments.
