Abstract: The purpose of the article is to show the main directions of work for preparing the publication of the poet Irina Nikolaevna Knorring’s Diary (1906–1943), peaceful life in Kharkov, Russian revolution, immigration, Tunisian period (1920–1925) and French period (1925–1940). The preparation included: 1) checking the text according to handwritten sources (special attention was paid to the francicisms and the French text translation), 2) making comments on the text in order to transform random notes into a source of reliable information inscribed in the historical and literary contexts, 3) compiling the Annotated Index of Names (total 1400 persons). The main feature while commenting on the Diary as a literary document is a large amount of bibliographic work. The diary was published as a two-volume edition.
