Abstract: The paper, based on epistolary sources of the 1940s–1950s, reconstructs Georgy Adamovich’s life and literary activities against the general historical and cultural background during the period of the most acute political and ideological conflicts of early post-World War II years. The chronological boundaries of the paper embrace the time of Adamovich’s collaboration with “Russkie novosti”, a pro-Soviet newspaper, on one hand, and the beginning of his collaboration with the democratic “Russkaia mysl’”, on the other. The aim of the paper is to present a detailed reconstruction of social and literary events of the Parisian part of the diaspora from May 1945 through March 1956, the reconstruction being based on a comparative historical and literary analysis of Adamovich’s correspondence with A.V. Bakhrakh, A.A. Poliakov, and the Bunins, as well as of Bunins’ correspondence with Teffi. The analysis of the correspondence makes it possible to reveal the causes of communication gaps in the diaspora, to clarify the specifics of conflicts in the editorial boards of the said newspapers, and to reconstruct Adamovich’s attitude towards both newspapers.
