  • Abstract: In August 1937, I.A. Bunin decided to visit Yugoslavia. The original plan for a vacation on the Adriatic coast had to be adjusted due to weather conditions and other circumstances. Immediately upon arriving in Dubrovnik from Venice, the writer proceeded to Belgrade. The arrival of the first Russian Nobel laureate became a significant event for the cultural life of Yugoslavia’s capital and particularly for the Russian émigré community. Thanks to the efforts of his hosts in Belgrade (V.N. Shtrandman, A.I. Belich, P.B. Struve, N.Z. Rybinskii, and others) and in Ljubljana (E.V. Spektorskii), Bunin’s tour turned out to be extremely eventful. In honor of the writer, several festive dinners were held and several excursions around Belgrade and its environs (Zemun, Avala, Oplenac) were organized. Despite the intensive schedule and accumulated fatigue, Bunin remained pleased with the reception, attention, and hospitality shown to him. Later, the writer fondly recalled his trip through Yugoslavia. During his tour, Bunin gave four interviews: two recorded in Serbian, one in Slovenian, and one in Russian. Furthermore, the writer’s journey was both preceded and accompanied by coverage in various Serbian and émigré newspapers. All discovered newspaper publications served as the basis for reconstructing Bunin’s tour and are included in the appendix. The article also republishes several photographs from the writer’s trip.
