Abstract: The paper is devoted the concept of socialism in the intellectual heritage of professor Piotr M. Bitsilli (1879–1953). The study is an attempt to reconstruct the changes in his personal scholarly thinking due to historical cataclysmic events of the 20th century. Special attention is paid to the differences in the position of Bitsilli in the period of his emigration in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (1920–1924) and Bulgaria (1924–1953). Based on some unpublished archival materials, as well as on the textbooks written by the historian, the article speaks on the necessity to comprehensively investigate the voluminous and diverse heritage of Piotr Bitsilli.
