  • Abstract: The literary activity of Piotr M. Bitsilli is considered as a constant attempt to establish a connection between a writer’s personality and the horizons that his work opens up to other authors — contemporaries or descendants. This approach greatly expands the panorama of research and gives it a cultural and historical depth, which is at the same time devoid of ideological dominance. The similarity between authors is everywhere corrected by their fundamental differences: the likeness of their individual literary technique cannot be described alone without a discussion of the classic’s spiritual strivings that lie beyond his artistic empiricism. From this point of view I interpret Bitsilli’s observations on Gogol and some other Russian writers.
  • Keywords: Piotr M. Bitsilli, Nikolai V. Gogol, inner form, individualism, Eurasianism, harmony, idea and complex, dolls.
