Abstract: The paper proposes a critical account of two versions of the theory of emigration and exile, such as created by Edward Said and then reworked in the Russian context by Liubov' Bugaeva. It reveals certain inconsistencies in this theory, in particular, an excessive modernization and psychologization of the experience of exile and migration, to the detriment of a systematic consideration of their political, cultural and social conditions.

Keywords: theory of emigration, theory of intercultural dynamics, theory of nomadism, mass deportations, migrations, expatriate, exile, refugee, heterodoxy, Edward Said.
