Abstract: The article analyzes in detail a series of publications by critic Iulii Aikhenval'd, dedicated to the so-called “literary NEP”: a note on the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party “On the policy of the party in the field of fiction” and reviews of a number of Soviet literature works. The article examines the responses to these publications in the metropolis criticism and journalism: the articles by Leopold Averbakh and Vladimir Kirshon. An attempt is made to analyze the reasons for the appearance of such sharply hostile responses, emanating primarily from the leaders of VAPP (All-Union Association of Proletarian Writers). Along the way, the position of VAPP members in connection with this Resolution is considered. Particular attention is paid to the internal political and ideological reasons for the appearance of Averbakh's article “Living Corpse” and its detailed analysis is given. The responses to this publication in the emigrant press are also affected.
