Emigrantica as a Research Discipline: Formation, Development, and Latest Trends

  • Abstract: The article is divided into two parts. The first one is an overview of the emigrantica development from the first publications of emigrant writers in the Soviet era and the wide public interest in Russian emigration that arose in the 1990s to the systematic study of emigration culture in 2000s–2010s. For 30 years, emigrantica has gone through several stages, worked out a number of research strategies, expanding from the Russian emigration studies to the study of national emigration from the Russian Empire and the USSR. Due to the abundance of material, the review focuses on the institutes, studying emigration, and research edition series devoted to relevant issues. In the second part of the research the author offers three different definitions of modern emigrantica: the narrow one, the broad one, and the global one. Then he outlines the prospects for the development of each type of emigrantica. According to the author, emigrantica has approached the moment of transformation into a separate scientific discipline.
