Dmitrii Kobiakov and Aleksei Remizov: Features of Memory

Abstract: The publication presents rare archival material related to the unknown history of Aleksei Remisov’s contacts with the younger generation of creative emigration. Dmitrii Kobiakov is a flamboyant figure of the Russian Monparnasse. His destiny and literary path in the second half of the 1920s were closely associated with the famous writer. The publication of 35 letters of Kobiakov to Remizov allows to restore these lost pages of the Russian emigration history. Comments to the epistolary material are provided with newly found materials from emigrant newspapers and little available archival sources. After World War II, Kobiakov returned to the USSR. This choice dictated to him a strategy of literary behavior and correction of past life events in a new living environment. The author localizes the story about Kobiakov’s biography on the problem of self-censorship of so-called “returnees”. The article and the researcher’s comments present for the first time a collection of the main body of D. Kobiakov’s biographical and bibliographical materials.
