Elena Dmitrievna Galtsova was born in Moscow. In 1988, she graduated from the Romance-Germanic Department of the Faculty of Philology at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), with her diploma thesis titled “The Poetics of Victor Hugo’s *Contemplations*.” In 1991, she completed postgraduate studies at the Department of History of Foreign Literatures at the Faculty of Philology, MSU. In 1993, she defended her Candidate of Sciences dissertation at MSU on the topic “French Surrealist Drama of the 1920s” under the supervision of L.G. Andreev. In 2008, she defended her Doctoral dissertation at the Institute of World Literature (IMLI RAS) on the topic “Theatricality in the Artistic System of French Surrealism” in the specialty 10.01.03 – Literature of the Peoples of Foreign Countries.
She has been working at IMLI RAS since January 1994: from 1994 to 2014 as a Senior Research Associate, from 2014 to 2019 as a Leading Research Associate, and since 2019 as a Chief Research Associate in the Department of Literature of Modern Europe and America. Since 2019, she has been the Head of the Scientific Laboratory “Rossica: Russian Literature in the Global Cultural Context.”
E.D. Galtsova combines her scientific career with teaching at universities. She worked at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) from 1988 to 1993, and then, from 1993 to 2003, part-time at the Military University (formerly the Military Institute of Foreign Languages), the French University College (Moscow), the Moscow Humanitarian-Economic Institute, and other institutions. In 2004, she was a visiting professor at the University of Clermont-Ferrand Blaise Pascal (France), Department of Slavic Studies, and in 2008 at the University of Picardy Jules Verne (France), Department of Comparative Literature. Since 2004, she has been teaching at the Department of Comparative History of Literatures at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH): from 2004 to 2009 as an Associate Professor, and since 2009 as a Professor. Since 2014, she has also been a Professor at the Department of History of Foreign Literature at the Faculty of Philology, MSU.
She is a member of the dissertation councils IMLI RAS D.002.209.01 and MSU Faculty of Philology MSU.10.10.
**Areas of Scientific Interest:** French and Francophone literature and theater of the 19th–21st centuries, cultural ties between Russia and Europe, the reception of F.M. Dostoevsky’s *Notes from Underground* in Europe and America, history of ideas, literary theory, comparative literature, cultural transfer, genetic criticism, autobiographical writing, interactions between different art forms in literature, anthropological interpretations of literature and theater.
Author of over 200 scholarly publications published in Russia, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, including articles, reviews, scholarly apparatus for editions of French authors, as well as textbooks and curricula. Translator of fiction (A. Camus, G. Bataille, A. Breton, L. Aragon, R. Crevel, R. Vitrac, M. Duras, M. Leiris, D.-G. Gabily, P. Sollers, J. Starobinski, T. Tzara, etc.), and scientific and journalistic texts from French, English, and Italian.
